Seniors
Sometimes, the senior members of our families move to maintenance provided communities during retirement years so that they have more time for such things as bridge, fishing, golf, church, volunteer activities and/or entertaining grandchildren. Before their needs become too pronounced, (ie- they need help with dressing, bathing, transportation, or with remembering to take medication), they should think aboout their options at facilities providing more extensive care and services. It is much easier to make this transition while they are still self sufficient and can move to an apartment, BEFORE they require daily assistance and the move must be made directly into a nursing home.
Downsizing at this age, from home ownership to a small apartment in a retirement community, requires help in packing, planning an estate sale, space planning for furniture placement in the new apartment, and setting up a few things upon arrival at the new place. We know of two companies designed to help with this transition: Gentle Changes, owned by Linda Scardino at 913-345-9014 and Senior Move Services, owned by Gerre Ann Davis at 913-897-6309.
The Kansas City area offers many choices for senior adults. We have gathered information on many different communities and their websites are posted below.
